The Beach Dubbin event is held every year at the beginning of August on Southsea Common and is one of the highlights of my year and the date goes into my diary for next year as soon as it is announced.
I love photographing there and realise when looking back at earlier photographs that the things that interest me now have changed over the years.
In the past, I always photographed the row of cars and vans, or took a photograph of the whole vehicle, Whereas now, I prefer to photograph a small highlight of the vehicle and find myself drawn more and more to the unrestored vehicles, with rust and peeling paint.
I had a VW Karmann Ghia when I was about 19 or 20 and it was a great car which I thoroughly enjoyed driving. I kept this for about 2 years and sold it for a VW camper van which I kept for about a year.
As I say elsewhere, if I knew then what I know now, I should have kept them.
Every year I look at the camper vans and think, perhaps this year!
