Size matters

Since first getting interested in photography and visiting exhibitions, galleries and shows, I have always liked large photographs. I don't know why, but I have. Until recently.

I then attended Photo London (one of the highlights of my year) to see the amazing selection of photographs on display.

As usual the fair was very busy and it was not always easy to see the exhibits. I then noticed that to see the large photographs I had to stand back some way and therefore there were always other people in my periphery vision and other photographs, etc. so it was hard to concentrate on the image I was viewing.

I then came across an exhibition of polaroid photographs individually mounted and framed. Because of their size, you had to get really, really close to see them and I then noticed there was nothing else in sight, just the photograph and I was able to contrate just on that.

THE BARBERS

Going forward

I still love large photographs and believe that many images benefit from being printed on a larger scale, including stunning landscapes, wildlife, especially elephants and many other subjects.

But I know feel that I would like to produce many of my images on a smaller scale and will therefore produce a series called SQUARES which will have an image size of 6 x 6 inches square, and a print size of 7.5 x 7.5 inches. I display these in a 12 x 12 inch white mount surrounded by a simple plain black mount, but feel free to frame them as you like.

Not all my photographs will fit into the square format, so a number will still be produced in a landscape or portrait format, but again on a smaller size of roughly 7 x 10 inch with the exceptional larger print.

I hope you like the smaller size as you will have to get up and personal with them.
