The canal has always been my place to go if I want some peace and quiet and to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The pace of life slows, the sights and sounds of nature help me chill out and people seem to be much more friendly along the towpath.
I would have loved to have bought a narrowboat and just travelled the canals with my books, music, photography and cooking.
Unfortunately, at the time it was possible, I couldn’t see a way to continue working to earn a living, so I passed up the opportunity, to my regret.
Every visit I make, I sit and think, would it still be possible, but I realise that at my age, travelling up and down the canals and operating the locks would be quite hard now and get harder as the years pass.
But I can still dream and who knows what the future holds.
