Throughout the last few months, I have been toying with the idea of printing my own photobook and I can hear you all saying, no, don't do it!
I have been to a number of events during the summer of talks by photographers, some of whom were published by publishers and the majority, who are self published.
These were fascinating and I learnt a lot from them.
Mainly, how difficult it it to get published today, how expensive it is, how difficult it is to sell your books and that you will almost certainly not make any money from this exercise.
Having listened, I decided to go ahead to the next stage and start working on the photobook to see if I think it could be a goer.
I would like this to be a collaberation between me and the buyer (more on this later if it goes ahead). I would like it to include various projects I have worked on over the last few years and I am trying my hand at poetry (not very good I'm afraid) and to include some of these as well.
I have been working with a cheap print out from my home printer to give me some idea on layout and I'm pleased to say that it is coming together.
As you will see from the photographs, what started as about 180 pages, has now grown to nearer 260 pages. It is so large now, that I had to order a super duper extra large bulldog clip to hold it all together.
One piece of advice that I heard, was that if self-publishing, then to start with only printing 20/25 copies to gauge reaction, before printing a larger quantity.
To be fair, if I sold 20 copies I would be over the moon, so anything above this would be a great bonus. 
I am trying to keep the price of this to £30 + P&P, so will not be booking a world cruise on the proceeds.
My reward will be people wanting to own a copy.
